Hi, I'm David Blood
I am a Kindness Activist and creator of Kindness Rocket I deeply value kindness and consciously growing to become a better human than I would be if I just sort of unconsciously went through life. Or if material wealth or power where my goals. I believe that humans can treat ourselves, others and our planet with more kindness than we often do, but it is our choice and responsibility.
Some of my passions...
Things I don't care much for include:
I have always had an interest in architecture and design, I enjoy good times with friends, photography, I like cats, good movies, playing Backgammon, Uno, Jinga, etc., or simply hanging out and talking. I like beautiful forests, streams, waterfalls, and beaches.
Speaking of friends, I see people post (online) that social media and smartphones have disconnected us socially. NOT ME! They have helped me connect socially, offline, in real life, far more. I think largely because it allows us to share our values and interests so easily, allowing people to connect on a deeper level faster. It is really pretty easy to find and connect with people who share similar values using social media tools. I do think it could be argued that this is causing a deeper rift among people of different values, that is a challenge as the world works better when we all get along, but I believe that social media is helping there too, helping us all communicate more effectively. From sharing photos, to enriching conversations by being able to quickly check things, I love how social media tools have enriched our lives.
In nature I feel a closer connection to myself and the majesty life. In big cities I like the art, culture, diversity, sights, activities, festivals, and celebrations.
I also like many music styles such as Swing, Classic Rock, House, Bollywood, and "New Age" I also like modern art, sci-fi, theme parks (especially Disney), Tiki's, travel, and much more!
While I enjoy story and mythology and believe that our mythology tells us much about ourselves, our culture, it is very important and I do respect it for that, but I do not believe in ANY God's, supernatural, or myths. I am a religious naturalist. That said, like MOST people who do believe in God, I also very strongly believe in love, in kindness, in people, and in working to create a better world.
I believe that purpose and satisfaction comes from striving to make a better place of this world, the real world, the only one we have. That is why I call myself a Kindness Activist, have developed the Kindness Rocket website, Thrive with Kindness Facebook Group and am working to promote more kindness.
Well, that's my basic intro. I hope that we can connect, start a friendship and work together to leave the world better than we found it!
Sincerely,
David Mitchell Blood
Some of my passions...
- kindness creating more happiness
- slow travel - by that I mean not flying someplace, staying at a posh resort and flying back out, but making travel a slow journey of discovery where I connect with people and places. I love exploring back roads to see where they take me.
- leaving the world better than I found it
- health
- living sustainably
- sustainable energy/energy efficiency
- building a business, not just for money, but to make a positive difference
- personal development
- ethics
- life
- social equality and justice
- the environment
- simple living
- walkable living
- equal opportunity
- fairness
- progressive values
Things I don't care much for include:
- most sports
- celebrity gossip
- keeping up with the Jones's
- the latest fads
- most TV, I don't even have cable or satellite
- bigotry
- injustice
- Consuming or having a lot of stuff, I prefer a simpler life and value people and experiences more than things.
- Suburban sprawl, this gets more into my hate category. Suburban sprawl has decimated once lively urban environments, the once vibrant cores of small towns and villages, and pristine rural and natural environments, lowering our quality of life while fooling us into thinking it was improving it.
